5/22/2008 - 5/22/2008Jerusalem Day (Yom Yerushalayim)
Countrywide,
Israel
A public holiday throughout the country, Jerusalem Day commemorates the reunification of the city when Israeli troops captured parts of east Jerusalem from Jordanian control in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war. The day is recognised on the 28th day of the Jewish month of Iyyar (April or May). And, as with all Jewish holidays, the celebrations begin on the evening before because Jewish days begin at sundown the evening before rather than at sunrise.
