One of the three major Jewish festivals, Passover is an eight-day festival commemorating the freedom and exodus of the Israelites from Egypt during the reign of the Pharaoh Ramses II. It also represents the beginning of Israel's harvest season. During Passover, nothing with yeast or which is 'leavened' can be eaten or consumed, which is a way of remembering that the Israelites had to leave in a hurry without having time to let their bread rise. The first and last days of this eight-day festival are public holidays.
