Celebrated by Indonesia's Chinese communities, the annual Lunar New Year celebrations is the biggest and most popular event in the Chinese social calendar. The time of the year for a fresh start and new beginnings, many Indonesians celebrate the occasion with friends, family and loved ones. Visitors during this period can enjoy a great atmosphere that includes lion and dragon dances, fireworks and food and drinks stalls. Although not a public holiday, many Chinese-owned businesses will be closed for at least one day over this period.
