An unusual series of events that usually attracts good crowds of curious visitors who mingle with the locals, the annual Negara bull races is a traditional Balinese event that marks the end of the rice harvesting season. Visitors and locals alike travel to the region to witness water buffaloes decorated with ornate and colourful headdresses compete in races as 'jockeys' try to coax the beasts along the route of the course. Good food and celebrations add to the carnival atmosphere of these fun and social events.
