11/01/2008 - 12/31/2008Perang Topat (Rice Cake War)
Lombok,
Indonesia
Celebrated annually by Sasak Wetu Telus and Balinese Hindus, Perang Topat is a religious ceremony that offers thanks to God for fertile soils and abundant crops. It's also used to ask for prosperity in the coming year. As a symbol of the good crops, participants assemble in Lingsar Park to throw "tapat" (steamed rice cakes wrapped in plaited coconut leaves) at one another. It's a good natured event that takes place on the sixth full moon of the Sasak calendar
