1/14/2010 - 1/14/2010International Kite Festival
Gujarat,
India
Celebrating the change in direction of the winds on Makar Sankranti, the annual International Kite Festival is an incredible spectacle that sees the skies filled with thousands of intricate kites made by teams from across India as well as some from further afield. One of the main highlights of the festival is the incredible midair kite battles. Teams entered in this category coat the strings of their kites in a resin mixed with glass powder making them incredibly sharp and giving them the ability to cut their opponents from the skies, with the aim being to be the last kite still flying. As well as the overhead attractions, there is plenty to keep visitors entertained on the ground, including kite exhibitions, kite building workshops and other attractions.
