Undertaken as a sign of religious sacrifice, devotees walk across a bed of flaming hot coals as part of the Thai Pusam festivities. The event is held in the temple complexes dedicated to Kartikeya or Mariamman, and participants in this religious ceremony emerge from the coals unscathed to join the singing and feasting that continues late into the night.
