One of the biggest celebrations in the Sikh calendar, Guru Parab celebrates the birthday of Guru Nanak Dev, the founding guru of the Sikh religion. Also known as 'Jyototsava', it is celebrated on the full moon day of Kartika. To mark the event, a huge celebration takes place in Nankana Sahib (formerly Talwandi) -the town of Guru Nanak's birth in 1469. The celebrations attract thousands of Sikhs who travel to the festival from all over India and the rest of the world.
