Held on the third day of moonlight fortnight in the Hindu month of Shravan, the annual Teej or 'Swing Festival' welcomes the coming monsoon season which provides essential rains for the parched land. Over two days, women dress in colourful clothing and sit on swings decorated with flowers to sing songs in praise of the coming rains. Dedicated to the Goddess Parvati, the festival remembers her union with Lord Shiva - the embodiment of the perfect marriage. The biggest celebrations take place in Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan.
