Held in July or August, Nag Panchami celebrates snakes which are traditionally seen as a symbol of energy and prosperity in Hindu culture. Celebrations take place in communities throughout India and visitors to the country at this time will typically see devotees making offerings of rice and milk to snake charmers who parade their slithery charges through the streets.
