Uttar Pradesh,
India
Hindus from across India travel to the banks of the Ganga River in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh for the Ganga Dussehra - a 10-day religious festival. The Ganga is a Hindu holy river which is worshipped as a divine goddess and mother that washes away the sins of humans. Each year during the festival, devotees visit bathing ghats which line the western bank of the river so that they can pray and be cleansed. Many also scoop up some of the clay from the river bed to be taken home and venerated.
