Gangaur Festival is one of the biggest and most important religious festivals in the region. The festival is dedicated to Gauri, a manifestation of the Hindu goddess of Parvati and Lord Shiva's consort. Gauri represents marital bliss and the festival is a popular festival of love which begins on the day after the Holi festival. Traditionally, married women pray for the safety, health and prosperity of their husbands, whilst unmarried women pray to meet their future partners. Some celebrations can last for up to 18 days.
