Devoted to the honour of the goddess Lakshmi, worshippers believe that the benevolent goddess travels through the streets blessing the faithful all over the country. It is traditionally a day of great celebrations and many people visit family and loved ones for a feast and to exchange gifts. Many people also attend ceremonies at their local temple
