Passports
Valid passport for the duration of stay required by all nationals referred to in the chart above.

Visas
Not required by all nationals referred to in the chart above for stays of up to 90 days except:
(a) 1. nationals nationals of Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia and Sweden who do need a visa;
(b) transit passengers continuing their journey to a third country by the same aircraft or by first connecting aircraft within seven hours, without leaving the airport.

Visa Note
(a) A Guyanese citizen traveling on a foreign passport does not require a visa if the passport clearly indicates the place of birth to be Guyana or a well-recognized place in Guyana such as Georgetown, Demerara, Essequibo, Berbice or Corentyne. If this is not the case, documentary proof of birth in Guyana must be presented to the Immigration authorities in Guyana, such as a birth certificate (both birth and marriage certificates in the case of a married woman) or an expired Guyana passport. (b) Nationals not referred to in the chart above are advised to contact the embassy/high commission to check visa requirements (see General Info).

Types of Visa and Cost
Tourist US$30 (single-entry); Business US$40 (single-entry); US$50 (multiple-entry); US$75 (multiple-entry, one year).

Validity
Visas are usually valid for three months from the date of issue. However, the length of stay and extension is at the discretion of the Immigration Office. Extensions are available from the ministry of home affairs in Georgetown.

Working Days Required
Depends on whether the application has to be referred to the authorities in Guyana. Generally, applicants should contact embassy or high commission at least one week in advance of travel to Guyana. If passport is to be returned by a courier service, pre-paid arrangements (making sure to include own account number) must be made by the applicant.

Warning
Most visits to Guyana are trouble-free, but crime levels are high especially in Georgetown and towns in the coastal regions. Visitors to the eco-sector (which excludes Georgetown and the coastal regions) generally experience no problems.

Since January 2008, there has been an upsurge in violent criminal activity. Visitors to the eco-tourism sites (outside of Georgetown and the coastal regions) generally experience no problems.

The risk of terrorism is low but you should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate terrorist attacks which could be against civilian targets, including places frequented by foreigners.

Health Care
Comprehensive health insurance is recommended. Hospital treatment in Georgetown is free, but doctors will charge for an appointment. Medical care and prescription drugs are limited and sanitary conditions are poor in many medical facilities. Travelers are advised to bring prescription medicines sufficient for their length of stay.

* A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travelers over one year of age coming from infected areas and from the following countries: Africa: Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, (Dem Rep), Congo (Rep), Côte d’Ivoire, Gabon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tanzania, Togo and Uganda; Latin America: Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, Surinam and Venezuela. Travelers arriving from non-endemic zones should note that vaccination is strongly recommended for travel outside the urban areas, even if an outbreak of the disease has not been reported and they would normally not require a vaccination certificate to enter the country.
