Nuremberg regards its Christmas market (Christkindlesmarkt) as amongst the very best of the many similar markets that take place each Christmas in Germany. There are indeed differences, such as the Prologue of the Christ Child ceremony, but the overall festive formula is the familiar one: craft and gift stalls, Christmas lighting displays, seasonal tunes and the delightful aroma of gingerbread, cinnamon and mulled wine wafting in the Old Town air. Nuremberg sausages and sweet roasted almonds are on the menu, too. The traditional market has a great old world feel and is particularly appealing to families with children. At 'Children's Christmas', Santa welcomes the children and invites them to try Christmas skills such as candle making. A steam merry-go-round and a ferris wheel are among the many children's rides available.
