11/01/2009 - 12/21/2009Frankfurt Christmas Fair
Frankfurt,
Germany
A winter's delight since the Middle Ages, the festive season in Frankfurt is a polished and well-run show that each year attracts a great mix of locals and visitors from overseas. From Thanksgiving until just before Christmas, the city's old section, from the Romerberg to the Main River, is ablaze with lights, decorations and the bustle of holiday crowds. There is an old-world charm that harks back centuries. Events are scheduled through each day, including choral singing, the carillon bells of Nikolaikirche, the Playing of the Tower Horns, the chiming of church bells and various advent concerts. There are hundreds of stalls and an immense Christmas tree from Switzerland. About three million visitors turn up each year to sample the Christmas spirit at this popular, family-friendly event.
