This is the International film festival for animation and short films. The latter is a category largely neglected by cinema and television and this festival has developed into one of the major short film festivals in Germany. It is also one of the best funded and does much to help promote the genre, which includes short animated and fiction films as well as documentary and experimental films. The International and National Competitions form the core of the festival, together with an Online Competition. Visitors, the press and film producers also use the festival as a meeting place and to exchange opinions and discuss new ideas. It is also popular with local film audiences, attracting more than 20,000 people in previous years.
