Avignon is the capital of the Cotes du Rhone, one of the most well-known wine-producing regions in France. The grapes are harvested each year and the first bottles of wine are produced early in September. Visitors and locals can try the wine at the many stalls in the square outside Avignon's most spectacular building, the Popes' Palace (Palais des Popes). The event takes on a carnival atmosphere with live music, jugglers and theatre productions.
