8/17/2007 - 9/02/2007Helsinki Festival
Helsinki,
Finland
Helsinki Festival is held over three weeks each year from mid-August to early September. It stages an exciting programme of music, theatre, dance, the visual arts, cinema and events across the city, featuring artists of international repute. The festival was first held in May 1968 but later changed to its summer dates in 1971. The event now attracts well over 250,000 visitors annually. One of the highlights is the Huvila Festival Tent, which has been a feature since the very beginning and provides a unique venue for some of the best musicians and performers from all over the world. The end of the festival is marked with the Night of the Arts when art galleries, museums and bookshops offer free entrance to the public and stay open until midnight while outside, performances take place on the streets
