9/01/2008 - 9/30/2008Heritage Open Days
Various,
United Kingdom
Each year visitors are welcomed, free of charge, at a selection of historic, significant and interesting buildings which are normally closed to the public. This initiative comes courtesy of The Civic Trust in partnership with English Heritage as part of the annual Heritage Open Days programme. Different buildings are chosen each year and a selection can be made by region or by county from the Open Days website. The idea is to increase public awareness of the importance of heritage, and to encourage visitors to develop a continuing interest in the country's architectural riches. All kinds of buildings open their doors, from castles to factories, town halls to tithe barns, parish churches to Buddhist temples. This is a rare opportunity to discover hidden architectural treasures and to enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities
