6/01/2009 - 7/31/2009Viking Pageant
Frederikssund,
Denmark
Each summer, seemingly the entire population of Frederikssund north of Copenhagen don Viking costumes to re-enact scenes from history for this annual celebration of their Viking forefathers. Men and women, adults and children, all participate in this colourful event which includes dramatic re-enactions of battles, love stories and political plotting all played out on an open-air stage that is surrounded by a replica village and Viking market. Plays are performed in Danish but English transcripts are available and there are plenty of sword fights and battles to keep non-Danish speakers entertained. The pageant is thought to be the largest event of its kind and attracts visitors from all over the world.
