11/01/2009 - 12/31/2009The Bohuslav Martinu Days
Prague,
Czech Republic
Bohuslav Martinu (1890-1959) is right up there with Smetana, Dvorak and Janacek, part of the pantheon of Czech musicians so closely associated with the national identity. He drew his inspiration from the Czech Highlands, borrowing freely from Czech and Moravian folk songs but adding a universal quality and a touch of genius to his masterpieces. The festival features extracts from his repertoire, including violin and violoncello competitions as well as concerts of chamber, symphonic and dramatic early music.
