8/01/2009 - 10/31/2009Dionysia Festival
Paphos,
Cyprus
Held in honour of Dionysus, the famed god of wine from Greek mythology, the annual Dionysia Festival is a celebration of the country's many great wines. First held in the 1960s, the three-day event has grown over the years to become one of the biggest and most important events of its kind in the country. In addition to the many wine exhibits, visitors can enjoy a great mix of traditional Cypriot entertainment that includes live music, dancing and local arts and crafts displays. A traditional beauty contest adds a little glitz and glamour to the festival with the winner being announced on the final night.
