Kicking off with a colourful opening ceremony that involves dragon dances, music and kite displays, the annual Beijing International Kite Festival attracts kite flying teams from all over the world. The tradition of kite flying dates back over 100 years in China, and kites dating back to this early period are on display at the festival as well as plenty of newer models which use the latest materials and technologies.
