11/01/2008 - 11/30/2008Matilda Sedan Chair Race and Bazaar

    Hong Kong, China
The annual Sedan Chair Race is the main fundraising event for Hong Kong's Matilda International Hospital. The event is popular with businesses, schools, clubs and organisations, and many of these groups enter sponsored teams that must carry a sedan chair around the Peak following one of two different routes. Contested in good humour, this is a friendly event which boasts a great atmosphere and plenty of additional entertainment and attractions ranging from food stalls to a craft market. The race dates back to 1970 when an innovative nurse came up with the idea to raise funds for the hospital that was threatened with closure. Today the race raises over HK$2 million each year for various local charities
