1/01/2009 - 1/31/2009Ice Magic
Lake Louise,
Canada
The Ice Magic International Ice Sculpture Competition and Exhibition takes place at the village of Lake Louise near Banff, in magnificent mountain surroundings. Up to 50 ice sculptors arrive from around the world to compete for the awards for the best and most imaginative sculptures. Towering figures emerge from raw ice, a medium which allows for a unique style of artistic expression. The 2005 event celebrated Alberta's centenary and featured subjects such as Swiss mountain guides, scenes of railway construction and frosty representations of the pioneers of Alberta Rocky Mountain life. The sculptures remain on display for weeks after the event for the enjoyment of visitors. There are categories for team and individual entries, and another for children and families
