Founded in 1879 to encourage the development of agriculture, manufacturing, industry, commerce and the arts, the CNE has evolved over the years to become the largest annual fair in Canada, with an average attendance of 1.4 million visitors each year. Fairground rides, live music on the main stage, art and popular exhibitions are among the attractions. A daily Mardi Gras-style parade takes place in the afternoon with bands, entertainers, floats and acrobats in procession through the grounds. Every night a firework spectacular lights up the Toronto skyline in a burst of fire, light and music. An extensive array of daytime attractions includes shows such as the "Hollywoof" dog theatre, a human cannonball, and International stage, Kids' World stage, nostalgia pavilion together with numerous food and drink stalls
