There's gold in them hills, and Dawson City celebrates the day they discovered the first nuggets, on 16 August 1896. The date has become a territorial holiday in this Klondike town, and an excuse to enjoy a wide variety of celebrations and entertainments. The festival includes a street parade, a Gold Tournament and a programme of evening entertainment. The Yukon Riverside Arts Festival falls within Discovery Days and features artists from across the territory, exhibiting in the park next to the Yukon River. Musical performances, theatre, dance and outdoor film screenings are also a part of the festivities. For the more energetic there is a Discovery Days Golf Tournament and a Discovery Day Run
