Born on 31 October 1922, Cambodia's former king, King Norodom Sihamoni abdicated from power on 7 October 2004 and now goes by the title of King-Father. He is still accorded his Royal rights and each year his birthday is celebrated with a three-day festival in Phnom Penh. Amongst the many special events and ceremonies, one of the most popular with the public is the spectacular fireworks display on the eve of his birthday.
