Rio de Janeiro,

Sebastian (Sao Sebastiao) is the patron saint of the city of Rio and, on his day, festivities are held to celebrate the anniversary of the city. A religious procession is central to the occasion, in which an effigy of the saint is carried from the Saint Sebastian church in Tijuca to the Metropolitan Cathedral. Here a mass is given by the Archbishop of Rio de Janeiro. Meanwhile, popular celebrations are breaking out across the city, including music and samba parties, horse racing and other sports
