10/01/2008 - 11/30/2008International Adolphe Sax Competition
Dinant,
Belgium
Adolphe Sax, inventor of the saxophone, was born in the Belgian town of Dinant, on the bank of the broad River Meuse in 1814. On the centenary of his death, the International Adolphe Sax Association was founded, and each year since 1994 a saxophone competition has been held here to commemorate the life of the instrument's creator. Musicians and visitors take part in a collection of events and celebrations, including the International Adolphe Sax Competition, the Competition for Young Saxophonists, workshops for bands, meetings of saxophonists and a great programme of jazz concerts all featuring the great instrument. For almost two weeks, this small town fills with the sound of the sax
