The island's National Trust was established in 1960 to ensure the preservation of its buildings and cultural heritage. Each year it hosts its Open House programme, which enables visitors to access some of the island's finest buildings and structures. The event is staggered over a three-month period from January to March, during which buildings and private residences are opened to the public.
