Attracting natives from Alaska, the Pacific Northwest and Canada, the World Eskimo-Indian Olympics is a celebration of the indigenous cultures and traditions. The event features traditional contests as well as few more unusual events such as ear-pulling, knuckle hop, high kick and the nalukatak (blanket toss). Other events include the popular Miss WEIO contest, marathon races, food exhibitions and traditional music and dance performances. Many events are free, but evening events are individually priced.

Getting there:
Air: Alaska Airlines has a daily service to Fairbanks.
Rail: The Alaska Railroad runs a daily service from southern stops such as Denali National Park, Anchorage and the other communities along the way.
Road: The Richardson Highway connects Fairbanks to other Alaskan destinations such as Delta Junction (2 hours), Tok (4 hours) and Valdez (8 hours).
