About 50 minutes east of Québec, Le Massif has 42 runs open from December to late April, and boasts the highest vertical drop east of the Canadian Rockies (2,526 feet). The picturesque resort is in a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, and the owners have been careful to develop the area without spoiling its natural beauty (lifts are mainly concealed by trees). The views of the ice-floe-filled St. Lawrence River are spectacular. Take the Hiver Express (418 525 5191), which operates a daily shuttle service from Québec to the main ski areas, departing from most major hotels (about $19 round-trip per person).
