La Bamba

This gorgeous old crimson-hued estancia dates back to 1830, when it was a post house on the Camino Real (Royal Road) that connected Buenos Aires to Peru. It's owned by the venerable Aldao family, and it served as the backdrop for the 1984 film Camila (think Argentine Merchant Ivory). Throughout the fortresslike main house and two smaller satellites (there are 11 guestrooms and a lovely swimming pool), the colonial spirit prevails, underscored by such outdoor activities as horseback riding and excursions in La Bamba's carriage. A one-day-only Día de Campo visit is also available.
