Fiji is a unique country with beautiful weather and a interesting history. I like to think of Fiji as a Hawaii without as many tourists and not nearly as expensive. The country is about the size of Hawaii and has the look and feel of Hawaii as well. Their are opportunities to stay at first class resorts or to rent homes that are not quite as plush. Fiji is also full of golf courses. My experiance in Fiji was one filled with water sports, relaxing and exploring the culture of the ancient Fijians. We rented a home high on a hill that over looked the ocean. We payed a fee for food, drink and hospitality. Although we had a delightful time at the home we still found that their were many resorts being built that looked like they had much more activities.
What did you enjoy most about Fiji?
The most exciting thing about the trip was a dance done by some native Fijians at the house we were staying. The owners of the house we were staying knew some near by villagers that would perform ancient ritual dancing. One night the villagers came dressed in ancient Fijian dress. They roasted a pig for us and then did a dance in front of a fire. The men simulated killing something with real spears. It was very exciting considering that the ancient Fijians were also cannibals!!!

It is not commercial at all. Only the resorts and the main city with the airport are commercial. It did not bother me because it was great to experience other cultures and how other people live. There is also a very high muslim population which means there is a high proportion of cows everywhere. This is also something that is very interesting but it is also something that some out-of-towners need to get used to They can be a real hazard so it is something that you need to watch out for.
