Frauenlauf (Women’s Race), Jun, the biggest running (or walking) race for women on the European mainland, it covers 5km (3 miles) from the Länggass district into the center of Bern (website: www.frauenlauf.ch)
Gurten Festival, Jul, very popular four-day open-air music festival on Bern’s own mountain, the Gurten, with a wide-ranging musical program (website: www.gurtenfestival.ch)
Buskers Festival, Aug, buskers and street performers from many countries and from all over Switzerland come to Bern to bring life and entertainment to the city’s streets (website: www.buskersbern.ch)
Onion Market, Nov, traditional folk festival on the fourth Monday of November with lots of activities and more than 50 tons of onions, many of them artistically woven together in plaits, brought into the city center by local farmers
Christmas Market, Dec, the Christmas atmosphere in Bern is nice and cosy, and there are interesting arts and crafts items on offer at the market on Münsterplatz and more traditional market fare on the Waisenhausplatz market
