Nightlife:

Toledo is traditionally a day-tripper’s excursion and generally quiet after dark. The exception to the rule is provided by five multipurpose establishments which switch by day and night and by days of the week between laid-back cafes to trendy cocktail bars and buzzy nightclub-style venues. Most are located in atmospheric historic venues.

At the Pícaro Café Teatro, Calle Cadenas 6 (tel: (925) 221 301; website: www.picarocafeteatro.com) you may find up-and-coming pop, rock and reggae bands. The Garcilaso Café, Calle Rojas 5 (tel: (925) 229 160; website: www.garcilasocafe.com) specializes in coffees and cocktails to ambient music, DJs and live bands, as well as occasional theater, films, comedy nights, poetry and cabaret (in Spanish only). The Dodici Café Teatro, Calle Recoleto, Plaza Campanas (tel: (925) 254 887; website: www.dodicicafeteatro.com) also stages music and comedy. Another good venue is the Circulo de Arte Toledo, Plaza de San Vicente 2 (tel: (670) 663833; website: www.circuloartetoledo.org), operating in a converted church. It offers live music (blues, jazz, soul, rock, pop) by night as well as a pleasant cafe and art space by day. There are more live blues and jazz at El Ultimo, Plaza del Colegio de Infantes 4 (tel: (925) 212 236; website: www.elultimobar.com).
