Nightlife:

Grote Markt is the place to head for a drink in the evening, particularly in warm weather, when the square is filled with tables and chairs spilling out from the numerous bars and restaurants. De Zwarte Ruiter, Grote Market 27, is excellent for food, atmosphere and service. Immediately opposite in a 17th-century building, the Boter Waag (originally the Butter Weighing House) is a quieter atmospheric bar. A five-minute stroll away, the Bierspeciaalcafe De Paas, Dunne Bierkade 16a, has a huge selection of Low Countries beers.

Two other popular squares are the Plein and the Buitenhof. Drink in the cosy atmosphere of a traditional Dutch proeflokaal (liqueur tasting bar) at Tapperij Le Duc at Noordeinde 137, where you can sample up to 150 different genevers (Dutch gin).

Nightclubs include Silly Symphonies, Grote Marktstraat 10, Danzig, Lange Houtstraat 9, and OneFour, Prinsegracht 14.

Regular live music venues include Paard van Troje, Prinsegracht 12, ASTA, Spui 27, and Muziekcafe De Paap, Papestraat 32.

In summer Scheveningen beach buzzes with dozens of bars along the promenade and De Zwarte Pad, and also includes lively nightclubs and live music venues.
