www.nice.aeroport.fr Nice's airport is the main gateway for Monte Carlo. This modern and efficient airport is located 24km (15 miles) west of Monaco.
Facilities include car hire, a currency exchange office, bar, telephones, shops and ATM machines.
There are regular
Rapide Cote D'Azur buses connecting Monte Carlo with both the terminals at Nice Cote D'Azur airport (tel: +33 (04) 9385 6444 (French
number); website:
www.rca.tm.fr). Metered taxis are also available outside the terminal; ensure the meter is switched on or agree a fare in advance.
Heli-Air Monaco (tel: 9205 0050; website:
www.heliairmonaco.com) also whisks passengers by helicopter from Nice to Monte Carlo in less than 10 minutes.
Getting There By Road:The A8 is the road that brings most of the traffic in and out of Monaco and Monte Carlo. From Monte Carlo, it heads west towards Nice and Marseille, and east towards the Italian border. Between Nice and Monaco, there are also three more scenic roads: the Basse Corniche (Low Coast-Road - Highway 98), along the sea, the Moyenne Corniche (Middle Coast Road - Highway 7), going through Eze-Village, and the Grande Corniche (Great Coast Road), going through La Turbie and Col d'Eze (Eze Pass).
There is no bus station in Monte Carlo as such: instead international buses stop at various points throughout the city. Regular buses, run by

www.rca.tm.fr) connect Monte Carlo with Nice and other French destinations. Services run to many major French towns and cities as well as to the neighboring countries.
Getting There By Rail:Gare Monte Carlo (Avenue Prince Pierre) is located a short walk inland. The station services destinations all along the French Mediterranean coastline, as well as delving further north into the rest of France and across the border into Italy and Spain. Getting Around:Public TransportThere is no metro or tram but the state
bus company,
Compagnie des Autobus Monaco (tel: 9770 2222; website:
www.cam.mc) operates the city's five routes, which are somewhat confusingly numbered 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6, and serve 143 stops. City routes run from around 0600 or 0700 until around 2100 and there is also a limited night service. You can buy tickets at many newspaper kiosks or on board. Singles and carnets of four and eight tickets are available. There are also seven public escalators and elevators (all free) that help negotiate the steep slopes of the city.
TaxisTaxis can be hailed on the streets and there are two main taxi stands open around the clock at the Avenue de Monte Carlo and the railway station.
Radio Taxis are a reputable company (tel: 9315 0101). Ensure that the meter is either switched on or agree a price in advance for all journeys.
Car HireThere is little need to hire a car in Monte Carlo as the city is quite compact, parking can be an expensive pain and it is often quicker to walk when making journeys around town. International car hire companies do have offices at the airport in Nice and also in Monte Carlo city. These include
