Music, Dance and Theater: Verona’s
Arena, piazza Bra (tel: (045) 800 5151; website:
www.arena.it) is the city’s main venue for classical music and opera in the summer season. Big theater productions are also staged here.
Teatro Filarmonico, via dei Mutilati 4 (tel: (045) 805 1891; website:
www.accademiafilarmonica.org) is the main venue during the rest of the year. Verona’s
Summer Theater Season (Estate Teatrale
Veronese) centers on the city’s old Roman theater, the
Teatro Romano, Regaste Redentore 2 (tel: (045) 806 6485 (tickets)
or 807 7500 (information); website:
www.estateteatraleveronese.it), where there are theater and ballet performances most evenings. The theater performances revolve around Shakespeare, and often there are international theater companies performing. Some of the shows during the festival are held at the
Corte Mercato Vecchio (tel: (045) 800 0360), the courtyard in the Palazzo Vecchio, piazza Erbe. The
Teatro Filippini, via Dietro Campanile Filippini 11 (tel: (045) 592 709) is an excellent and very successful theater for children.
Film: Sala Filarmonico, via Roma 2 (tel: (045) 596 826) is one of the oldest cinemas in Verona (although with state-of-the-art technical equipment), has a very large auditorium and is used for screenings during the Verona Film Festival.
Rivoli, piazza Bra (tel: (045) 590 855) is a popular cinema with a central location.
Fiume, via Porta San Zeno (tel: (045) 800 2050) screens both new and old, mainstream and art films. In the summer, it operates an open-air cinema at Porta San Zeno. There is an eight-screen
Warner Village multiplex called
La Grande Mela, via Trentino 1, in Lugagnano di Sona (tel: (045) 609 1111) south west of the city.
