Stuttgart’s main shopping street is the pedestrianized Königstrasse, which extends for over 1km (0.6 mile) south west from the central station. Many international designer brands feature here. More specialized shops are to be found in the Bohnenviertel (Bean Quarter), while shopping malls include the underground
Klett-Passage by the central station, and the new Königsbaupassagen.
The
Markthalle is filled with specialist shops offering fresh foodstuffs and spices. Close by, open air markets are staged on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings on Marktplatz and
Schillerplatz, again primarily featuring fresh produce, along with flowers.
Leather goods, clothing and jewelry are the main specialties offered in picturesque Calwer Strasse, while on most Saturdays throughout the year, the Karlsplatz flea market is a treasure trove of antiques, books and other collectables. In the month leading to Christmas, the traditional German Weinachtsmarkt is a major feature, offering handicrafts and food with a seasonal flavor.
Shopping hours are generally Monday to Saturday 0930-2000, with larger shops open later on Thursdays.
