www.stuttgart-airport.com Stuttgart Airport is located 13km (8 miles) south of the city center. It is a major hub for low cost carriers such as
Germanwings and
Air Berlin, and serves domestic and European destinations. It is Germany’s seventh busiest airport, handling around 10 million passengers yearly through its four
terminals.
Airport facilities: These include conference and banqueting facilities, a business center, shops, restaurants, bars, banks, ATMs, bureaux de change, tourist information and car hire from
Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National and
Sixt.
Transport to the city: S-Bahn rail services run frequently from the airport to Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (Central Station), journey time is less than 30 minutes. Taxis and regular buses also serve the terminals.
Getting There By Road:Stuttgart occupies a very central geographical position in Europe, and is served well by road connections. Four
autobahns (motorways) converge on the city, providing fast links from Frankfurt, Zürich, Karlsruhe and Munich. Frankfurt is 205km (122 miles) to the north, and Munich lies 220km (137 miles) to the south east. Parking is widely available throughout the city center, both on-street and in multi-story garages. A serviced site for camper vans is available at Cannstatter Wasen, on the east side of the city.

www.deutsche-touring.de) operates intercity and international scheduled coach services to and from Stuttgart. The main bus terminal is adjacent to the central station.
Getting There By Rail:Deutsche Bahn (tel: (01805) 194 195; website:
www.bahn.de) operates a comprehensive range of high speed (ICE), intercity, regional and local services to and from Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof. Intercity and ICE services connect with the international network, while, a new high speed TGV service links the city directly to Paris in less than four hours.
Getting Around:Public TransportStuttgart has an excellent modern public transport network, comprising
buses and local
trains (
Stadtbahnen, designated by the letter U). These are operated under the aegis of
Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund Stuttgart (VVS) (tel: (711) 66060; website:
www.vvs.de). There are around 200km (120 miles) of Stadtbahn lines criss-crossing the city over up to 15 routes, some of which operate only at busy times to the Daimler Stadium and the congress center, and a number of which converge on the central railway station. There is a comprehensive network of buses serving all areas, the main bus terminal being located next to the central railway station.
A range of tickets and passes is available for the visitor, ranging from a one day pass giving unlimited rides for a 24-hour period, either in the city itself or across the entire VVS administered regional network, and day tickets for groups of up to five people, to three day cards for visitors staying in accommodation or attending conferences anywhere in the VVS region. Other passes, such as the Stuttcard Plus, also give discounts on admission to visitor attractions. All students benefit from discounted travel on the network. Public transport generally operates between approximately 0500-0000.
An unusual form of transport is the
rack and pinion railway, locally known as the ‘Zacke’, which plies a steep 2.2km (1.4 mile) route between Marienplatz in the city center and Degerloch, on a hill overlooking Stuttgart.
