Getting There By Air:

Leeds Bradford International Airport is situated 17.5km (11 miles) north of Leeds city center and connects with about 40 destinations in the UK and parts of Continental Europe.

It has all the usual services and facilities you’d expect at an international airport including good disabled access, ATMs, currency exchange, car rental, photo booths, children’s
play area, games zone, a choice of shops and a wide range of bars and restaurants.

For anyone needing Internet access, there is a wireless service that is accessible from any part of the airport as well as cyber desks and dial-up booths. Travelers can also take advantage of the Business Executive Lounge/Yorkshire Executive Club, which offers a quiet and relaxed area with free drinks, newspapers and work stations. The lounge is open to all passengers and can be booked in advance or on arrival subject to availability. The airport also has a Fast Track priority lane that allows qualifying passengers to process quickly through the airport’s security central screening zone (CSZ).

The Metroconnect 757 bus operates regular services between the airport and the city’s bus and train stations. Signposted off the M1 and M62 motorways as well as the Yorkshire section of the A1, the city is an easy 20-minute drive from the airport. Taxis can be booked on arrival at the airport.

Getting There By Water:

Leeds is well situated for easy access to the ports of Hull in the east, and Liverpool in the west of England.

Getting There By Road:

Located in the heart of Yorkshire, Leeds sits at the crossroads of the M62 and M1/A1 motorways. It’s well positioned for easy access to the towns of York and Hull in the east and Manchester and Liverpool in the west.

The National Express (tel: 0870 580 8080; website: www.nationalexpress.com) operates regular coach services connecting Leeds with various destinations in the UK including Victoria coach station in London. The main coach station in Leeds is on York Street in the east of the city.

Getting There By Rail:

Visitors arriving in Leeds by train are welcomed through a grand arrivals hall that has benefited from a recent multi-million pound facelift. Located on City Square in the south of the city and just a short walk to the commercial center, the station has a range of shops and services including a visitor information center. National Express East Coast (tel: 0845 722 5111; website: www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com) and Virgin Trains (tel: 0845 722 2333; website: www.virgintrains.co.uk) operate services to and around Leeds including a direct National Express East Coast service from London’s Kings Cross with a journey time of just over two hours. Getting Around:

Public Transport
Leeds is served by a comprehensive local bus and train network that’s coordinated by West Yorkshire Metro (tel: (0113) 245 7676; website: www.wymetro.com). One of the most useful services for the center of Leeds is the City Center Loop with stops at 18 convenient locations that form a ring around the city. 

As well as standard single and return fares, visitors can also take advantage of a number of travel discount fares, the most useful of which for the weekend visitor are the West Yorkshire DayRovers. These tickets allow unlimited travel in West Yorkshire from 0930 on weekdays and all day at weekends and on bank holidays and can be purchased for either bus or train travel or both combined. There’s also a FreeCityBus that operates regular shuttle services from 0630 to 1930 Mondays to Saturdays between various points of interest in and around the city center.

Taxis
There are numerous taxi ranks around the city, including one immediately outside the train station. During peak periods it’s best to book a car in advance and there are numerous companies to choose from. Car Hire
There are a number of car hire companies operating in Leeds. Avis (tel: (0113) 250 3880; website: www.avis.co.uk), Europcar (tel: (0113) 250 9066; website: www.europcar.co.uk) and Hertz (tel: (0113) 250 4811; website: www.hertz.co.uk) all have offices either at the airport, in the city or both.

Bicycle Hire
Visitors wanting to explore the city and beyond on two wheels can hire bicycles from Cyclesense Cycle Hire (tel: (01937) 844 068; website: www.cyclesense.co.uk). The hire location in Thorp Arch Trading Estate is a short taxi ride out from the city, but from there visitors have easy access to a cycle path that runs to the historic market town of Wetherby and on to the Harland Way cycle path.
