Nightlife:

Zagreb nightlife is primarily student-orientated, with the highest concentration of small bars and cafes lining the pretty street of Tkalciceva in Gornji Grad. Those in search of something more sophisticated might try either Hemingway, Trg Marsal Tita 1, or Skola, Bogoviceva 7, both chic lounge-bars serving cocktails. Real ale drinkers would do better to head to either Pivnica Medvedgrad, Savska 56, or K Pivovari, Ilica 222, both Central European style beer halls attached to breweries. The cafes on the main square remain perennial favorites for an evening aperitif: try Gradska Kavana, Trg Bana Jelacica 7.

Zagreb’s biggest mainstream dance club is Aquarius, Aleja Mira bb (website: www.aquarius.hr) overlooking Lake Jarun, 4 km (2.5 miles) from the city center. However, the glamorous crowd prefer Saloon, Tuskanac 1a (website: www.saloon.hr), a see-and-be-seen spot attracting a smattering of Croatian celebrities. The young alternative crowd meet in Tvornica, Subiceva 2 (website: www.tvornica-kulture.hr) and Mocvara, Trnjanski Nasip bb (website: www.urk.hr), both underground clubs staging experimental music and happenings.
