Being the capital, Zagreb boasts a large share of Croatia’s cultural institutions, including the Koncertna Dvorana Vatroslav Lisinski (Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall) at Trg Stjepana Radic 4 (tel: (01) 612 1166; website: www.lisinski.hr), which is to the home to the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, and stages classical music performances as well as occasional jazz concerts; and the Hrvatski Glazbeni Zavod (Croatian Music Institute) at Gunduliceva 6 (tel: (01) 483 0822), which hosts chamber music recitals.
The Hrvatsko Narodno Kazaliste (HNK, Croatian National Theater) is at Trg Maršala Tita 15 (tel: (01) 482 8532; website: www.hnk.hr) and produces and stages drama, opera and ballet.

Regarding cinema, films are shown in original version with subtitles. The best place for arts films is Kinoteka at Kordunska 1 (tel: (01) 377 1753). Other centrally located cinemas include Central at Petrinjska 4, Jadran at Ilica 42 and Zagreb at Trg Petra Predradovica 4; for information about films showing at these three cinemas, tel: 062 100 100. Zagreb’s biggest cinema is Broadway Tkalca, in the Centar Kaptol complex at Nova Ves 11, in Gornji Grad (tel: (01) 466 7686).

In addition, alternative music, theater and film are on offer at Tvornica and Mocvara, both clubs based in disused factories (see Nightlife). For information about cultural events, pick up a monthly leaflet at a Tourist Information Center (TIC).
