Independence Day, 20 Jul, throughout the city
Carnaval de Bogotá (Bogotá’s Carnival), Aug 5-6, celebrates the anniversary of the city’s Hispanic foundation. Most of the events take place in the heart of Jamaica Metropolitano Simón Bolívar. The festivities also include pre-carnival celebrations in July
Festival de Jazz, Sep, national and Latin American jazz bands
Festival de Cine de Bogota, Oct, one of the biggest film festivals in Latin America, established in the 1980s, shows movies from around the globe, with a very strong Latin American representation
Christmas, Dec, despite being mainly a family affair, there are a few events taking place in Bogota in December to celebrate Christmas. The feria artesanal navideña takes place in Candelaria (el Parque de Los Talentos) and over 60 artisans take part in this fair. Many concerts are also held in churches during this period
