There is no shortage of shopping centers and malls in Brisbane. The more central ones are concentrated in the CBD, on Queen Street Mall and in Fortitude Valley. They have all the high street names you would expect from a big Australian city.

Milton’s Park Road is the place for designer boutiques, and for fantastic galleries one should go to New Farm, while Paddington has a few good antique shops.

There are plenty of markets too, from art and craft markets to farmers markets, not to mention flea markets for bargain hunters. The South Bank Art and Craft Market can’t be beaten for atmosphere: there are plenty of stalls selling handmade goods and tasty food, as well as street entertainers, tarot readers, etc. (Hours are Friday 1700-2200,  Saturday 1100-1700 and Sunday 0900-1700.)

Or head for trendy Stones Corner Street Market, good for fashion, jewelry, gourmet food, home accessories and health related products, open Fridays 0800-1600. Valley Markets on Brunswick Street in Fortitude Valley have a boho ambience and attract a cosmopolitan crowd, with stalls selling an eclectic array of vintage and cutting-edge design and fashion, as well as accessories and gifts to satisfy all tastes.

Shops are usually open 0900-1730 during the week, but close at 1700 on Saturdays and 1600 on Sundays. Late night shopping is on Friday, when shops stay open until 2100.
