Oxford Island National Nature Reserve

Situated on the southern shores of the large freshwater lake, Lough Neagh, the Oxford Island National Nature Reserve is a protected area of outstanding natural beauty. The area is made up of a variety of different habitats including reedbeds, woodland, meadows full of wild flowers and ponds that teem with life and is one of the most picturesque regions in County Armagh. The reserve includes a number of bird-watching hides, viewing areas, paddling pool and several marked walking trails – some of which are suitable for wheelchair users. The Lough Neagh Discovery Centre opened on the shores of the lake in 1993 and provides visitors with information and history about the area.
