The Pearl (Perlan) Overview
Perlan (The Pearl) is as much an architectural masterpiece as it is a feat of engineering. Designed by architect Ingimundur Sveinsson, this awesome ten-story building opened to the public in 1991. It's geothermally heated by water forced through steel supports and provides a means of water storage and power for the greater Reykjavik region. Excellent views of Reykjavik can be had from the Viewing Deck on level four. There is a revolving restaurant in the glass dome at the top of the building. Cocktails are the specialty in the Perlan bar, and art exhibitions and concerts are held regularly. Air: Reykjavik Keflavik Airport. Road: Bus: Public services to Perlan. Car: Bustrdrvegur Road towards Perlan (from Reykjavik).
